Product Details

As the 964 and 993 continue to age, failing A/C evaporators have become one of the most common and costly issues owners face. Leaking, clogged, and corroded units are widespread, and even brand new OEM replacements are now part of the problem. Factory clear anti-corrosive coatings for evaporators were banned in recent years due to environmental restrictions, meaning new OE units leave the factory with no protection at all. The result: oxidation begins immediately, and many owners have watched their A/C systems turn into snow blowers within months of installing a new unit. CSF built the OEM+ Performance A/C Evaporator to solve this problem for good.

Developed in partnership with Motorsport Inc., the CSF #8368 uses a modern parallel-flow dual core design, a significant departure from the outdated serpentine tube construction of the OEM unit. The dual aluminum cores feature CSF's Super-High Pressure Multi-Channel Microtubes for optimal refrigerant flow and maximum surface area contact. The result is approximately 2x the cooling performance of a brand-new OEM evaporator, better fitment and seal than both the OEM and the discontinued Griffiths Kuehl unit, and an anti-corrosive powder coat finish that eliminates the white flake issue permanently. It is also optimized for R134a, helping recover cooling efficiency lost in a refrigerant conversion. All at roughly half the price of a new genuine Porsche unit.

If you are also upgrading your condenser, this pairs directly with the CSF 964/993 OEM+ Performance A/C Condenser (CSF #8325).

FAQ

Q: Why are white flakes blowing out of my vents?

A: White flakes are caused by oxidation and corrosion buildup on the evaporator. For the first ~25 years of production, original Behr/Mahle evaporators included an anti-corrosive coating. Over time that coating wears down. New OEM replacement units no longer include any coating due to environmental regulations, meaning they begin oxidizing immediately after installation. The CSF evaporator solves this permanently with an anti-corrosive powder coat finish.

Q: Is this evaporator compatible with an R134a conversion?

A: Yes. The CSF evaporator was specifically designed with R134a in mind. The OEM evaporator was originally designed for R12 refrigerant, which is less efficient in R134a-converted systems. The CSF unit helps recover a meaningful portion of the cooling efficiency lost in that conversion.

Q: How difficult is installation?

A: The evaporator is a true drop-in replacement requiring no modifications. However, the HVAC suitcase that houses the evaporator sits behind the dash and requires significant labor to remove and reinstall. Professional installation is recommended if you are not familiar with the process.

Q: How does this compare to the discontinued Griffiths Kuehl evaporator?

A: The Griffiths Kuehl unit was the go-to aftermarket solution for many years but has been discontinued for over five years. While it was an improvement over the OEM design, its triple-pass tube layout creates more back pressure than CSF's single-pass parallel-flow design, reducing efficiency. The CSF unit also seals 2x better than the Griffiths unit and uses more advanced microtube construction for superior performance.
